In case you got too shitfaced last night to remember how many times, and to whom, you slurred “I’ll owe you a beer,” now there’s Foamee. FoameeFrom the FAQ:

Foamee is a free service that helps track who you owe beers to (and vice-versa) using the popular messaging service, Twitter.

Twittter, eh? I seem to remember a recent rant about Twitter & idiocy, but I have to say this falls into the very small category of intelligent uses I mentioned. What’s really ingenious about Foamee is it’s promotional potential for it’s creators, SimpleBits. There’s no doubt it’ll become wildly popular - as of this posting it’s only a week or so old and already has 930 users - and that means traffic which translates into $$ one way or another. There’s also a little merchandise section with Foamee tshirts and coasters. Tell me you don’t know at least two internet trend-nerds who’d love to get these as gifts.

I can count at least four people I know who’ve either talked about doing something like this, or made a half-assed attempt at building a beer-counter. The thing is, they only talked about doing it or threw up a MySpace page with some bullshit “yo dude” explanation of what they were attempting. What a shock, it didn’t work.

Major kudos to SimpleBits for putting this together and doing it right. It’s simple, free, fun and revolves all around a community that will build itself. I hope you’re taking some mental notes, this is what smart design is all about.

Now, who owes me beer? It’s Friday and I want to collect.
