I usually don’t give a shit about what any actor or other TV/movie/music celebrity has to say about the world of politics. Their profession is entertainment, which (usually) gives them little to no credentials as political commentators – and yet people listen to them just because of the fact that they are celebrities.

For me, there are only a few notable exceptions to this. Exceptions because these people have decided to use their wealth and fame to do some good, and have decided to pay attention to something other than how they look in a mirror. I put Sean Penn in that category, and have posted his comments here before.

Matt Damon, while not the most outspoken when it comes to politics, is a pretty sharp guy. I wouldn’t usually post comments of his, but this one nails the core problem with Sarah Palin’s nomination: she’s a character from a bad Disney movie that is this close to getting her hands on the big red button.

The comments for this video on Milk and Cookies aren’t bad either, especially concerning the reality of John McCain’s frailty. M&C user buckinghamgreen makes a point I hadn’t thought about until now: would any insurance company actually give a policy to John McCain? Let’s pretend for a moment that McCain isn’t a Senator, isn’t a presidential candidate and is just a normal citizen veteran. With his history of health problems, especially cancer, could he get health and/or life insurance? His risk factors are astronomical, even without factoring in the duties and stresses of being President of The United States.
